About the Author: Liz Cheney is Director of Philanthropy at Southwest Initiative Foundation.
Meet Ken.
He’ll tell you he’s an ordinary person. We’ll tell you he has an extraordinary dedication to his community. Ken is the former mayor of Buffalo Lake and a retired teacher of 33 years. When I visited him at his 85th birthday party this spring, he told me Southwest Initiative Foundation had changed his life.
That’s how much it means to Ken to be able to support the Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Public School Foundation Fund. He started it with the help of Southwest Initiative Foundation in 2006 and has been making gifts ever since. This fund has awarded $211,230 in grants, opening new possibilities to kids in the school district close to Ken’s heart.
“I’m not a wealthy person, yet I feel I’ve contributed to the individuals in our schools, and that gives me a lot of satisfaction.” Ken Anderson
Your gift to our general endowment powers the local partnerships that help people like Ken shape the future of their communities in southwest Minnesota. You supported us in coordinating $3.1 million in gifts and $1.6 million in grants last year for local causes. There’s nothing else quite like our work in the region, and you’re behind it. Thank you!
Will you consider making your first gift or renewing your support for this work before our fiscal year ends on June 30? It could change your life.
