This week we flipped the calendar to June, the first month of summer but the last month in Southwest Initiative Foundation’s fiscal year. My three main priorities this year as president/CEO were governance and the board, organizational culture, and relationship building. As we wrap up our year, I’m especially struck by the incredible leadership of our Board of Directors.
Bill McCormack will complete his two-year term as board chair at our June 12 meeting. We cannot thank Bill enough for his leadership—10 years on the board and especially his past two years as chair. Under his direction, we’ve really stepped up the board recruitment process, which has led to great results for new candidates.
Both Bill and past chair Sandy Ludeman, who has chaired the governance committee, have played a major role in improving processes and the impact our board makes. This is critical as three board members will retire in June, and three new members will be elected.
Our volunteer board takes their role seriously—and we’re not taking their governance, experience, and leadership for granted. Bill’s dedication and direction have truly helped me and SWIF raise the bar over the past two years. I look forward to his continued impact as past chair, and the work ahead of us with new leaders joining our team.
