Southwest Initiative Foundation is committed to helping all of our kids succeed. We all do better when they do—from our schools, where learning is top priority, to our businesses, where these kids will be our future workforce.
For more than 13 years, the foundation has created community groups, called our Early Childhood Initiative, which focus on young kids ages birth to 5. Some of our friends in southwest Minnesota will have heard about the Murray County Early Childhood Initiative’s Jail and Bail fundraiser event, held just this week at the Murray County fair in Slayton.
Jailbird volunteers were held for charges like “contributing to the well-being of minors” and they collected donations to post their bail. The money raised will support programs like preschool screening, child care visits, car seat safety clinics, reading events and more.
Obviously, this was a fun way to get the word out about what local our groups do to support young kids. But we can all play a role! Wish a child well as they head back to school this fall—tell them you’re excited for the fun and learning they’re about to experience. We know that it truly does take the entire community to support our kids!
