It’s a new year—and what a new year it’s going to be in Southwest Minnesota!
As 2011 gets fully underway, once again I ask myself, as many do, what I might want to try and accomplish in the New Year. It’s a good time to consider changing and/or starting something in our lives. A good time to ask ourselves what’s most important. A good time to decide what to focus on.
Professor Rosabeth Moss Kanter recently shared her top five lessons from last year in the Harvard Business Review blog. Her points on innovation and leadership can be carried confidently into the New Year.
- Surprises are the new normal. Resilience is the new skill.
- Innovation takes courage and the willingness to be out in front rather than following the herd.
- Straight-line careers are over-rated.
- Openness and inclusion should be the new standards.
- Forget privacy, especially if you’re a leader.
I encourage all leaders to consider these five points for our communities, region, state and nation.
Which of the five lessons above mean something to you, and why?
Be Inspired,
Sherry
