Bird Island-Olivia Community Foundation
The BIO Legacy Foundation was created in 2012. Organized under the umbrella of Southwest Initiative Foundation, the community foundation is a vehicle for making charitable contributions for the benefit of the community through a permanent endowment fund that enables people to give back and fulfill the dreams for tomorrow. A local advisory board provides oversight and directs how funds will be used for the exclusive benefit of the Bird Island-Olivia area. The goals of the Bird Island-Olivia Community Foundation are to enhance the rural lifestyle in the Bird Island and Olivia area by supporting ideas and projects that strengthen their communities. They support four pillar areas: education, recreation, health and amenities.

Grants
The Bird Island-Olivia Community Foundation sets grant-making priorities through regular review of community needs and opportunities. Grants are made to qualified non-profit organizations that have an interest in building and strengthening the community and surrounding area. Since inception, the Bird Island-Olivia Community Foundation and its related funds have collectively granted nearly $110,000 to support local organizations and community projects. Successful grants have been awarded for the following: classroom seating, books, equipment for learning, a variety of sports programs, camping gear, fitness related items, weekend meals for kids, a splash pad feature, a dock for Olivia pond, and more.
