Our Early Childhood Initiative is a statewide, grassroots network of volunteer coalitions that promotes a healthy start to learning, achieving, and succeeding for children age birth to 5.
Since 2003, we’ve started 16 coalitions in our southwest region. They’re led by local coordinators and include educators, care providers, parents, employers, law enforcement officials, medical professionals and any interested community members. Giving out books, hosting reading and family events, and updating play spaces are popular Early Childhood Initiative projects. Just to name a few.
Yesterday, we sorted over 9,000 books at our office. A special thanks to Hutchinson Rotary for helping us sort this impressive book order! Our coalitions, area schools, libraries, care centers, and other connections were able to purchase these books at a fraction of their retail cost. Many young readers across southwest Minnesota will have new books in their hands soon thanks to our Early Childhood Initiative!
