Nancy Fasching, our vice president of community impact, has been named a 2020 PLACES Fellow by the Funders’ Network (TFN). Nancy is among 16 exemplary leaders in philanthropy who will embark on a year-long curriculum focusing on race, equity and inclusion.
Because the needs and perspectives of low-income communities, often comprised of people of color, have been systematically disregarded in decisionmaking about growth and development, TFN developed the PLACES Fellowship. The fellowship develops tools and provides resources to help funders understand and eliminate the disproportionate impact of these decisions, embedding an equity lens into the work they do. Recent cohorts have addressed issues impacting disenfranchised communities, including structural racism, gender justice, health equity, environmental sustainability, economic development and community engagement — asking difficult questions, exploring uncomfortable truths and confronting their own biases along the way.
