HUTCHINSON, Minn. – Kyle and Sommer Harris are growing K&S Roll-Off’s with help from Southwest Initiative Foundation’s (SWIF) Microenterprise Loan Program. The couple launched in April 2023 and have seen success in their first couple years as small business owners.

“We started this journey together with just three roll-offs and a gooseneck trailer and have grown since we started! We appreciate all our customers and the support that has been given to us,” Sommer said. “As a local, family owned business, we take pride being here in Hutchinson where our journey started together.”

K&S Roll-Off’s drops off and picks up dumpsters and disposes of a wide variety of waste on behalf of customers. Options include roll-off containers in three sizes: 13-yard, 17-yard and 21-yard.

The primary market is the city of Hutchinson and its surrounding communities, but Kyle and Sommer are looking to expand by providing services outside their current 40-mile radius.

Loan funds from SWIF provided working capital for the expansion. Microloan clients also receive free technical assistance to improve their business management skills. Areas of support include business planning and financials analysis, accounting software training, marketing assistance and other training opportunities for the life of the loan.

Loan programs have been a key function of SWIF since its inception to support communities and businesses throughout southwest Minnesota. In 2001, microlending was added to existing programs as a tool to support small businesses and entrepreneurs.

“Kyle and Sommer are working hard to make their small business a success, and we’re happy to be able to support them as they grow,” said Selina Berning, SWIF Entrepreneurship Finance Officer.

This microloan program receives funding assistance from the U.S. Small Business Administration and U.S. Department of Agriculture. For more information, contact SWIF by calling (800) 594-9480 or (320) 587-4848, or email SWIF.
