PRESS RELEASE
HUTCHINSON, Minn.— Johanna Markgraf of Buffalo Lake has joined Southwest Initiative Foundation’s (SWIF) staff as development and operations assistant. In this newly created role, Markgraf will support resource development and regional fundraising initiatives for the nonprofit, which serves the 18 counties and two Native nations of southwest Minnesota by connecting people, investing in ideas and building communities.
“I was drawn to the role and being part of a team whose mission is to improve the lives of people and their communities in rural Minnesota,” Markgraf said. “I love being a continuous learner. There’s always something new to learn, understand, explore — people to meet and help. I’m excited to learn about SWIF’s roles in our communities and looking forward to using my background in finance to help that mission.”
Markgraf earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science from the University of Minnesota-Twin and started her career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture before joining the finance industry. Her strong financial background positions Markgraf well to support SWIF’s fundraising efforts. As a regional community foundation, SWIF partners with individual and corporate donors to harness generosity and retain wealth for the local communities it serves in southwest Minnesota. SWIF is also a partner to 31 local affiliate community foundations with local advisory boards leading community projects and grantmaking. Markgraf will work with SWIF staff, donors and donor prospects, as well as fund partner volunteers to ensure an excellent and seamless giving experience that builds trust and deepens donor relationships.
“Johanna is a wonderful addition to our team. Her work background and journey will add great value to her dual roles at SWIF,” said Missy Maiers, SWIF Chief Administrative Officer. “Her passion for helping others and love for rural Minnesota are invaluable. We are delighted to have her join us.”
