This month, SWIF is launching our new Emerging Leaders Cabinet with a retreat hosting its volunteer members.
Led by Board Chair Bob Thurston and Director of Community Philanthropy Liz Cheney, the Emerging Leaders Cabinet will be a committee of our Board of Directors comprised specifically of people under the age of 40.
Its purpose is simple: to cultivate the next generation of leaders through strategic engagement and development opportunities. This includes utilizing strategies to recruit diverse leaders, explore current realities and trends and to create avenues of influence.
The retreat is an orientation for Cabinet members, informing them about the Southwest Initiate Foundation and our new Grow Our Own strategies, as well as introducing them to each other and providing opportunities to learn about themselves and their leadership style.
After the retreat, the members will meet quarterly and may attend one SWIF board meeting annually. The Emerging Leaders Cabinet may also allocate a pool of grant dollars in the future, with support from staff. Watch our website for more information about this new effort and the people involved!
