Southwest Initiative Foundation / Retaining Wealth / 2025 Year-End Giving Guide

2025 Year-End Giving Guide

November 4, 2025

Giving Guide

A bright red barn surrounded by trees covered in hoarfrost.

As the season of generosity approaches, we’re here to help make your year-end charitable giving simple and meaningful. Whether you’re supporting our mission, a community foundation partner, or another fund, now is a great time to plan ahead. We’ve outlined key dates and deadlines below to make sure your tax-deductible gifts are processed smoothly and on time.

Important Year-End Deadlines

To ensure your charitable gift qualifies for a 2025 tax deduction, please keep these key dates in mind:

  • November 20 – Give to the Max Day
  • November 27 – Foundation closed
  • December 5 – Last day to initiate mutual fund transfers
  • December 12 – Last day to initiate publicly traded stock transfers
  • December 25 – Foundation closed
  • December 31 –
    • Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) checks from IRAs must clear
    • Physical stock certificates must arrive at our office by 4 p.m.
    • Mailed gifts must be postmarked by this date.
    • Online gifts must be submitted before midnight.
  • January 1 – Foundation closed

Please note: A change in post office processes may delay postmarks on mail dropped off late in the day, which can affect year-end gift deadlines and tax documentation. To ensure your donation is credited in the intended year, request a manual postmark at the postal counter when mailing close to the calendar year-end deadline. Automated processing could date your mail later than expected, so manual postmarks or certified mailing provide reliable proof of mailing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below you’ll find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about year-end charitable planning.

What is the foundation’s EIN Number?

Southwest Initiative Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our EIN Tax ID is 41-1555592.

What about donating stock and mutual funds? How do I donate securities so I receive a 2025 tax receipt?

Donating appreciated, publicly traded stock or mutual funds may provide an income tax deduction and could help you minimize capital gains tax. In 2025, we request mutual fund transfers be initiated by December 5 and stock transfers by December 12 in order to ensure they are received and processed in 2025.

How can I make a gift from my donor-advised fund if it’s not already managed by SWIF?

If you’d like to support us using your DAF not managed by SWIF, contact the organization that manages your fund and recommend a grant in your preferred amount. When granting through your donor advised fund, please use the following information:
– Tax ID #41-1555592
– Mailing Address: Southwest Initiative Foundation, 15 3rd Ave. NW, Hutchinson, MN 55350

What if I missed the deadline to mail in my gift and qualify for a 2025 charitable tax deduction?

The fastest and easiest way to make a year-end gift is online. Donations made through our secure website by December 31 at midnight will qualify for a 2025 charitable tax deduction and help support the causes you care about.
