Southwest Minnesota’s summer festival season is in full swing. Many town celebrations in our region receive support from local community foundation grants. Last year, the Morton Area Community Foundation granted $1,800 to the City of Morton to help with the annual volleyball tournament at the 4th of July Celebration, paying for new nets and volleyballs.
Our network of 31 community foundations supports passionate people with the resources to make positive change. A team of local advisory board members guides each community foundation by fundraising, recommending grants, telling stories of good work happening locally and promoting their town.
“Morton’s 4th of July event has always been a local favorite hot spot for many families! It’s a good day of fun, activities, food and fireworks,” said Candy Rebstock-Korte, chair of the Morton Area Community Foundation Advisory Board. “For the parade and awareness of the community foundation, last year we handed out frisbees to the community with our logo on it to get people outside and to be active in the park.”

The mission of the Morton Area Community Foundation (MACF) is to support community and business growth by building a permanent resource through the generosity of past, present and future residents. Since inception, this foundation has granted nearly $45,000 to support local organizations and community projects.
In the past year, MACF hosted “Kids Night” at the Morton community Center with a movie and popcorn, plus a visit from Santa. Board members also put on a garage sale for the community to raise awareness about the foundation. This year, they are hoping to partner with the city for new concrete slabs and possible renovation of shelter houses in the park.
