Many of our local community foundation partners make grants to benefit libraries in southwest Minnesota, supporting a variety of projects. Thanks to funding from the Hutchinson Area Community Foundation and the Friends of the Library, the Hutchinson Public Library was able to purchase 12 custom-built children’s picture book bins.
Community Foundations
‘Small towns can bloom in big ways’
Picture a city where streets bloom with baskets of flowers, trees grow to shade the sidewalks and residents take pride in their surroundings. This is the city of Dawson, thanks in part to Dawson Community Foundation grants dedicated to city beautification efforts.
Bird Island-Olivia Community Foundation supports students
Students attending BOLD High School in Olivia are experiencing extra support at school this winter thanks to grants made by the Bird Island-Olivia Community Foundation. The foundation granted a total of $6,075 in fall 2024, including $2,500 for the Care Closet.
Skating through winter thanks to Clarkfield Area Community Foundation grant
What used to be an open field in Clarkfield is now an ice rink thanks to $1,000 from a Clarkfield Area Community Foundation grant. Transforming the former Clarkfield archery range into a place to skate opens up opportunities for recreation during winter months when it can be harder to find something fun to do outdoors.
New chapter for a beloved Minnesota popcorn stand
In partnership with the Granite Falls Area Community Foundation, the Granite Falls Kiwanis raised $30,000 to build a larger popcorn stand in 2024. But what to do with the old one? When you have too much, the best thing to do is share. The iconic popcorn box shaped stand with its red and white exterior has found a new home in Litchfield, where Litchfield Area Community Foundation’s advisory board hopes it continues to serve snacks and generosity.
Appleton Community Foundation grant puts students in holiday spirit
Reindeer sing, flashlights glow and kazoos hum through the halls in Appleton and Madison as students prepare for their holiday program. The performance shines a spotlight on just how wild things can get at the North Pole this time of year! Thanks to a grant from the Appleton Community Foundation and donations from local families, teachers were able to purchase supplies to make the show really sparkle.
