Twenty years ago, the Southwest Initiative Fund, as it was known then, was born out of an experimental effort by The McKnight Foundation to provide a rural response to the economic crisis of the 1980's.

Today, the Southwest Initiative Foundation is a regional community foundation that has grown from an experiment to a permanent and trusted resource.  This annual report not only reflects our activities in 2006, it also provides a historic perspective of all we have achieved together during the past 20 years.
