Valspar Grants

The Southwest Minnesota Foundation has partnered with the Valspar Corporation’s “Minnesota Beautiful” program for eight years to provide grants of paint and coatings for community improvement projects in southwest Minnesota. Projects receiving grants in Fiscal Year 2005 included:

Camp Sanderson Girl Scout Camp, Spicer - Interior and exterior painting of buildings and cabins as centers for nature, art, and other programs for camp attendees.

Christian Community Outreach Center, Olivia - Exterior painting for a landscape mural in this community gathering spot to transform the gray cement walls surrounding the play yard into a "concrete paradise."

Heritage Village, Mountain Lake - Exterior painting of five historical buildings within Heritage Village, which reflects the lives of the Mennonite and Lutheran immigrants from Russia who settled the area during the late 1800s to early 1900s.

Hutchinson Economic Development Authority, Hutchinson - Exterior painting for a patriotic mural across from Veterans Park.  The theme of the mural will complement the adjacent park, which acknowledges and celebrates war veterans.

Jackson County Fair Association, Jackson - Exterior painting of buildings at the fairgrounds, including Fair Village, which depicts the past history of Jackson County.
Meeker County Parks Department, Litchfield - Exterior painting of the Forest City Stockade, which is a reconstruction of the original stockade that was built in 1862.  The stockade was a safe haven for area settlers during the Indian uprising, and the grounds are currently used for educational purposes.
Nobles County Historial Society, Worthington - Interior and exterior painting to restore historic buildings at Nobles County Pioneer Village, a 44-building site that gives visitors the opportunity to experience the early life of pioneers.
Rotary Clubs of Marshall - Exterior painting to restore the band shelter at Liberty Park in Marshall.  This project is part of an overall plan sponsored by the local rotary clubs to renovate Liberty Park, which is over 100 years old and viewed by thousands of city, state, regional, national, and international citizens every year.
