Guest post from Program Officer Jackie Turner-Lovsness
A couple of years ago I worked with community members in Pipestone to host a Community Business Blitz. It was a great success and really showcased the commitment the community has to grow and promote itself. Last summer when I was thinking about communities that would embrace hosting a Social Media Breakfast every month, they naturally came to mind.
What is a Social Media Breakfast? The idea behind it is to bring together local businesses and individuals in areas interested in using social media and the web to better their business and themselves. You get together monthly in a casual and fun atmosphere to talk about what’s new and happening in the online world, network with peers and have a little breakfast too!
The Pipestone Area Chamber pulled together a steering committee and together we started brainstorming and organizing. November 2013 was the kick-off for their first Social Media. From 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. is networking and at 8:00 the program starts and last until 9:00 a.m. Guest speakers share how they use social media to promote and grow their businesses and companies.
Other Social Media Breakfasts have also taken off in southwest Minnesota. Locations include:
- Redwood Falls – 1st Friday of the month
- Willmar – 1st Thursday of the month
- Pipestone – 2nd Tuesday of the month
- Lakefield – 3rd Friday of the month
- Worthington – 4th Wednesday of the month
- Hutchinson – 4th Thursday of the month
If you are in these areas, I encourage you to check it out. They are free to attend but registration is required.
