I’m writing my blog on a BEAUTIFUL snowy Friday afternoon. We are getting a very heavy snowfall today across our beautiful region – I hope everyone is really enjoying what looks like a very white Christmas season.
My focus today is the food shelves of our region. It is VERY encouraging to consider what volunteers do every day to organize and provide food in our counties and communities for those who are truly in need.
My family and I area so blessed to have jobs, a home and food; we can so easily take these things for granted. Just this week I was with friends helping a single mom with two children who was dealing with an eviction notice from her landlord and a homeless couple living out of their vehicle parked in a church parking lot. I hope you can find a way to help. We can’t forget about those who are less fortunate.
The staff of the Southwest Initiative Foundation, on their own initiative, started collecting cash and food for county food shelves for the 18 counties in our region. Many have already received the boxes of food and cash and the rest will be receiving them in the coming months. Recently, the staff challenged our board to also consider giving and they didn’t hesitate to join in giving to the Jackson County and Rock County food shelves. It was an honor to give to these two food shelves at our 25th Anniversary County celebrations in November.
We received the thank you note displayed…but I want the real thanks to go to our staff and board for their personal gifts AND the volunteers who are taking our contributions and serving those who are in need.
