This session is for leaders who are looking to build a year-long fundraising plan. We’ll dive into the annual donor cycle and how to create an annual fundraising calendar based on behavior science and best practices. Attendees will leave knowing how to add structure to their annual fundraising goals. As a result\, they can expect to grow their outcomes and impact in and beyond 2025.  \n\n\n\n\nBreakout sessions 3:00 p.m.\n12 Golden Rules of Nonprofit Finance | Sarah Bauer Jackson\, Portfolio Director\, Propel Nonprofits: Nonprofit financial health can seem like an elusive\, nuanced\, and subjective judgment call. In this session we will break it all down to 12 Golden Rules of nonprofit finance to keep your organization healthy. From budgeting to operating reserves\, if you follow these rules\, you’ll be on your way to a better understanding of nonprofit financial health. This session is a great introduction for those who are new to nonprofit finance.  \n\n\n\nIntroduction to Inter-Generational Transfer of Wealth | Benjamin Winchester\, Rural Sociologist\, University of Minnesota Extension\, Department of Community Development and Jeff Vetsch\, Community Development Officer\, Southwest Initiative Foundation: We are witnessing an unprecedented transfer of wealth from one generation to the next. Historically\, people lived their entire lives close to their birthplace and as wealth passed from one generation to the next\, most stayed in the same community. This is no longer true\, and once the wealth leaves our communities\, it may never return. The Transfer of Wealth study provides a research-based estimate of your region’s assets – homes\, businesses\, investments – that will transfer between generations within the next 10 and 50 years. In Minnesota\, over $61 billion in wealth will transfer in just the next 10 years. This wealth\, when combined with active donor or legislative engagement\, makes available charitable giving and enhances philanthropic investing opportunities to improve the quality of life for our communities into the future.  \n\n\n\nAI for Good: Empowering Nonprofits to Make a Bigger Impact | Steve Gasser\, Vivid Image: Artificial intelligence is transforming the way organizations operate\, and nonprofits are no exception. In this engaging session\, we’ll explore practical AI applications to enhance donor engagement and amplify community impact. Learn practical\, ethical\, and mission-aligned ways to leverage AI tools—without losing the human touch that makes your foundation essential. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to refine your approach\, this session will provide actionable insights to help you harness AI for the greater good.  \n\n\n\n\nSchedule is subject to change. Questions? SUMMARY:Keeping a Nonprofit Scandal Free: Lessons from Feeding Our Future
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an online lunch-and-learn session lead by Jess Birken\, host of the podcast Charity Therapy and owner of Birken Law Office\, a firm dedicated to helping nonprofits. This session will last 1 hour\, including time for questions. The content is tailored for southwest Minnesota nonprofits. \n\n\n\nNonprofits love press coverage – until it’s for the wrong reasons. What can nonprofits learn from the recent Feeding Our Future scandal that rocked the nonprofit sector? Is even MORE oversight and compliance for nonprofits really the best way to protect community charitable funds? What role does a board or key staff have in protecting nonprofits from bad actors? Who holds responsibility anyway? Attorney for nonprofits\, Jess Birken presents several lessons organizations of all sizes can take away from this national news sensation and FBI investigation. \n\n\n\nWe are proud to host this online training\, because we know that strong nonprofits are essential to a thriving region where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential. The session is free to attend\, but registration is required. A Zoom link will be sent prior to the session. If you have questions\, please contact Amy at amyb@swifoundation.org or (320) 552-2331. \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHi\, I’m Jess Birken. I’m the owner of Birken Law Office. I help nonprofits solve problems so they can quit worrying and get back to what matters most – Their Mission. In my spare time I make videos\, courses and other materials that empower nonprofits to do things right. Using the right tools\, making the right connections and getting the right coaching is how we get stronger. I’m not like most attorneys\, I actually have an outgoing personality\, and I like to think outside the box. Let’s be real – most lawyers are boring. And most lawyers are smart people but lousy teachers. I have a masters in nonprofit management and enjoy teaching and coaching. Let’s make nonprofits better.

This session will last 1 hour\, including time for questions. The content is tailored for southwest Minnesota nonprofits. \n\n\n\nNonprofits have been slow to modernize. We’re behind many other sectors for things like adopting technology\, innovating\, and marketing. How can we be nimble\, modern\, and not blow the budget? For some nonprofit folks\, modernizing or trying new technology can seem intimidating. Jess Birken is convinced every nonprofit can leverage modern tools to improve their work environment without huge expense or technical know-how. \n\n\n\n\nTop 3 Takeaways of this Session: 1) Using modern technology can improve every nonprofit workplace and create happier staff and constituents 2) All nonprofits can modernize their office with easy to adopt tech tools 3) There are lots of tools you can use without knowing how to code.\n\n\n\n\nWe are proud to host this online training\, because we know that strong nonprofits are essential to a thriving region where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
