Are you a business person? Here are four reasons you should attend the Grow Our Own Summit December 15 in Marshall:
- Tackle our workforce, housing and child care shortage.
We’ve been hearing from business and community leaders across southwest Minnesota that workforce, housing and child care shortages are impacting your ability to do business. We’ve also been digging deep into regional demographics and trends. This summit brings together our region’s needs with our reality to drive solutions for the issues we face.
- Equip young people with the skills they need to work for you.
Training your employees starts long before they walk through your door. You need a workforce who shows up on time, knows how to do their job and produces quality results for your company. Not all of our young people are equipped to do this, and it starts at birth. Kids and young adults from low-income families have less access to everything from quality early childhood education to advanced placement courses in high school to sport and enrichment activities that provide mentoring, team-building and other life-long skills—skills you need them to have to be good employees.
- Make inclusion a growth strategy.
There’s a changing face to our region—and your workforce is changing, too. We’ve been talking about Baby Boomer retirements for a long time, but who’s taking their place? Young working families are facing housing, child care, transportation and real financial issues—which affects your business’s ability to fill much-needed positions. Our region’s population growth in the next 30 years will come from kids of color. Inclusion is our growth strategy.
- Learn together.
There are lessons to be learned from communities across the country who didn’t address big issues like this soon enough. Southwest Minnesota is coming at this from a position of strength. Let’s bring our best ideas forward so your business doesn’t miss a beat.
