Throughout the country, we’re hearing about skills that are in such high demand for employers: science, technology, engineering, and math.
It’s no different here in southwest Minnesota. Can students access the right classes and experiential learning opportunities to prepare to work in the jobs of the future, and the jobs we have available right here in our region?
To help, Southwest Initiative Foundation awarded grants totaling over $26,000 for projects that build these types of skills through experiential learning in partnership with local businesses.
A few of the grant projects include:
- Windom Schools
Robotics team is adding 3D printing capacity to add to their STEM hands-on learning. The school also has a unique partnership with Toro to share welding equipment. - Glencoe-Silver Lake Schools
Their student team designed a super-mileage car that runs E-85 with assistance from Pinske Edge in Plato and other area businesses and engineers. - Redwood Valley School District
They have a great partnership with Daktronics and is developing a Transportation, Power and Energy course that will teach pneumatics.
There are so many great examples of young people doing innovative things to prepare for their future through partnerships between business and education. We’re proud to support their efforts!
